"The Pull" Christmas Card
For all collectors of
lifeboat and RNLI memorabilia, "The Pull" by John Freeman is a must.
One of the few pictorial representations of the historic pulling
of the Whitby lifeboat overland to Robin Hood's Bay.

To commemorate
the heroic life boat pull of January 1881 when the rowing life boat
Robert Whitworth was hauled overland through gales and snow by crew
and local populous from Whitby to Robin Hood's Bay to effect a rescue
at Ravenscar. The Whitby brig 'Vister' had foundered and it was
too far to row in those conditions and mount a rescue attempt.
A re-enactment of this
event took place on the 29th of August 1999.
