Runswick Bay is a tiny coastal village 8 miles north of Whitby. Its picturesque cottages huddle under a mighty headland and look across the sweep of the bay. The thatched cottage at the northern end of the village must be one of the most photographed buildings in the UK. This moonlit study depicts the local lifeboat men at work in the lifeboat shed - preparing for a launch, carrying out a drill or putting the boat back in its shed after answering a 'shout'. You can decide! It is not a scene of recent times but, like the village itself, fixing a specific time or date is not something that you particularly feel you need to do!
